The Sound of Skateboarding

A short film with legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk which uses sounds created by the skateboard itself, or by noises associated with its use. Our research focused on the things that make the skateboarding world unique, such as the sound of the board breaking or falling off the board. We researched which of these sounds are produce-able and how we can turn them into music. The sound editing was slightly different from the ‘traditional’ way since we have to edit as we go -video, sound and music – all simultaneously. The short called, naturally, ‘The Sound of Skateboarding’, is an encapsulation of the sport and example of the power of sound. It’s basically ‘a visual soundtrack’ – original music assembled from sound samples.
